James Robert Binkley


Services for LTC (Ret.) James Robert Binkley will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016 12:00 PM at the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with Pastor Mark Henslee officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery will full military honors. Visitation will be Monday, September 5, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Jim departed this life on August 29, 2016.

Jim was born April 27, 1932 in Honolulu, Hawaii and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1950. He was a linebacker while in high school. He would continue his college education in California. While there he was called to duty by the Honolulu National Guard. This would lead to a long military career from 1950 - 1973 when he retired after having 3 overseas tours in Korea, Vietnam and Hanau Germany. He received numerous awards for his honorable service including the National Defense Medal with 1st Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device Air Medal, and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar.

After retiring in 1973, he attended Oklahoma University and received his Master's Degree in Education. He then went on to work for the State of Oklahoma for 20 years in the Juvenile Department. After retiring he loved to go fishing, doing gardening around the house and square dancing. He was an avid fan of Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys. Jim was a lifelong member of VFW Post 5263. He belonged to the Solo's and Star Promenator.

Jim engaged in many activities throughout his life. After 47 years of marriage he lost his wife, Peggy, to cancer.

Jim met and married, Irmgard Keeling, acquiring a wonderful family that he really loved. He also loved his little Chihuahua Sammy. Jim enjoyed the Fellowship at Westminster Presbyterian Church. He touched the hearts of many people and he will be greatly missed by all.

Jim is survived by Jimmy and Stacy Binkley of Australia, Marion Hendrick of Lawton, Monika Reed of Wichita Falls, Nanette and Kevin Haselton, Desmond and Lois Dawn Jones of Duncan, Kersten Clifton, Dahlia Reed, Adriane Hendrick and Fiancée Alton Curnel, Jarod Hendrick, Tara Ramirez, Cailin Ramirez, and Caleb Jobe.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society in his name at P.O. Box 3134, Lawton, Oklahoma 73502
