Charles Gilbert Yarbrough

June 16, 1948 - March 02, 2019

Charles Gilbert Yarbrough, age 70, of Lawton passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.
Charles Gilbert Yarbrough was born June 16, 1948 in Sanford, North Carolina to William Yarbrough and Margie Clark. After high school he started working for Sears as a mechanic. He was drafted to United States Army May 9, 1968 and served a tour in Vietnam. He returned home to work for Sears for several more years. He then decided to become self-employed, owned and operated his own gas stations. He also enjoyed driving trucks as an independent contractor. During his life he enjoyed racing cars at Lawton Speedway and other tracks around the Texhoma area. Crafting cars from the ground up and taking those spins around the dirt tracks gave him, his family and friends many years of thrills. One of his greatest accomplishments was being inducted into the Texhoma Racers Hall of Fame in 2018. In his retirement, his days were filled by helping his son with his business, helping his grandson with all the answers about life and racecars, collecting old sewing machines and enjoying life with his wife Shelly and all his family.
Charles is survived by his wife, Shelly Yarbrough of Lawton; his son David and his wife Jacqueline Yarbrough of Indiahoma; his daughter, Samantha and her husband John Looney of Lawton; his grandsons, Caylin and his wife Amanda Cottingham of Fletcher, Alex Yarbrough of Indiahoma, and Joshua and his wife Amber Looney of Ft. Bragg, NC; his granddaughters, Rebecca and her husband Wesley Funkhouser, Maddison Looney and Savannah Looney all of Lawton; his great grandsons, Hunter Cottingham of Fletcher, Landyn and Axtyn Looney of Ft. Bragg, NC; and his granddaughters, Oaklee Funkhouser of Lawton and Bexley Looney of Ft. Bragg, NC. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Chasenah; his sister, Mary Sorrell and his brother, Robert Yarbrough.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Disabled Veterans Association, D.A.V., in honor of Charles Yarbrough.
