Leslie Garrison Vaughan

January 23, 1929 - April 29, 2023

Early morning on Saturday, April 29, 2023, our beloved husband and Daddy, Leslie Vaughan, saw his Savior Jesus and heard Him speak, "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Leslie was the oldest of identical twins born to Leslie Vaughan and Lula Barrett in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on January 23, 1929. While attending Shawnee High School in 1946, Leslie enlisted in the US Army and served honorably at the end of WWII in Trieste, Italy. On December 27, 1949, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Donna Stone. He earned a degree in Business/Finance from Oklahoma Baptist University and Geology from Oklahoma City University. His career in the oil and gas business allowed him to mentor many young geologists at different oil and gas companies in Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio, and West Virginia. In the early 1980s in Oklahoma City, he formed his own oil and gas company, D.S.R. Energy named after his girls (Deborah, Sara, and Rebecca). He could remember every well he drilled and all of its details. His rock collection had specimens from all over the world.
In every place he lived, Leslie was an active member and Deacon in his church and taught his family to know and love Jesus. He was instrumental in building programs for several churches and a Bible teacher for high school/college students through senior adults for many years. He diligently studied the Scriptures and was always willing to serve others.
These are facts about our loved one but the measure of the man is not in what he did but how he did it. The priority of his life, after his relationship with Jesus, was his wife, his girls, and his family. He was a man of his word and kept his promises. He conducted his business with integrity. He provided for and strongly protected his family. He filled the house with music as he played the piano, harmonica, organ, and violin by ear. He was attentive and playful, sacrificial in serving. He truly loved us. He was a wonderful friend and taught us about friendship and community. Our abundant memories sustain us until we are together again. Leslie is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his daughters, Debbie Hanebutt, Sara Husebo (Larry), and Beckie Potts (Robert); his grandchildren, Meredith (Jim), Eric (Katie), Tyler, Joel, Jeff (Amy), and Jenna (Mathieu); and his great-grandchildren, Trey, Henry, Kyla, Cole, Leo and Lyanna as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Lula Vaughan; and his brothers, Martin, Leonard, and Clifford.
The family is so appreciative of those who cared for Leslie his last few weeks, especially his VA Professionals, Fredette and Michelle, Excel Home Health caregivers Rayshaun, Joyce, Mindy, and Luciea, and Excel Hospice nurses Jenna, Leslie, and Chelsea. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his honor to Disabled American Veterans at https://www.dav.org/ways-to-give/.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, May 12, 2023 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service with burial in Ft. Sill National Cemetery.
