Emma Lee Smith

October 12, 1940 - April 14, 2018

Emma Lee Smith, 77, was reunited in heaven with her loving husband, Ken, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer.
Emma was born in Los Angeles, California to Richard and Marie Buckley. She was raised in Midwest City, OK. She graduated from Midwest City High School. She began working for JC Penney's as a personnel manager. While working at Penney's, she was actively involved with ABWA in which she was president at one time. After retiring from JC Penney's, she started a second career as a nail technician, a job that she enjoyed immensely.
Emma's family and her friends were very important to her. She loved them all fiercely. She enjoyed helping and caring for others. Once you were taken in by her there was no getting out. She had several close groups of women that she cared for deeply and they cared for her. The VA wives were so very important to her and the happy hour girls in her community were very special as well.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Marie Buckley, two children, Steven and Dottie, and her husband, Ken. She is survived by her sister, Mary Spitzer (Paul); brother, Richard Buckley (Freddie); two daughters, Pam Helms, and Natalie Simer (Ardyth), all of OKC; one son, Doug (Val) Simer of Moore, OK; five grandchildren, John Helms of OKC, Monica Young (Will) of Dallas TX, Brett, Bryson and Eryn Simer of Moore, OK; and three great-grandchildren, Christian of Yukon, Aiden and Mason of OKC. She also leaves behind four step-children and several step-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and others who were like family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cancer Specialists and Dr. Parker, Lacey and Lori for their wonderful care. Thanks is also extended to the wonderful staff on 6W at Integris Baptist Hospital and the amazing staff at the Integris Hospice House. A special thank you to her friends, Jaci, Vian, and Vicki for helping to care for her.
Viewing will be Wednesday, 9am-9pm, with family present from 6-8pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 19, 10:30am at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Following the service, Emma will be buried beside her husband at Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, OK at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
