Walter Clifford Putnam

May 11, 1935 ~ January 9, 2020

Walter Putnam, age 84, of Cache passed away January 9, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Walt was born on May 11, 1935 at home to Leslie and Martha (Bales) Putnam. One of eleven children, he grew up on the family farm and attended country school with his siblings. He was drafted into the Army in 1955 and spent time overseas in Germany. Upon discharge from the Army, he used the GI Bill and attended North Dakota School of Science. He completed a 2 year course in diesel mechanics.
On September 4, 1961 he married Alice (Snooks) Harrison. They had 2 children, Wanda and William (Bill). They settled in the Circle, Montana area where he worked as a mechanic. In 1966, they moved to Breckenridge, Minnesota where he started work as an instructor in diesel mechanics at the ND State School of Science.
Walt loved Montana and in 1975 as a single dad, he moved to Billings, MT with Wanda and Bill. He began teaching diesel mechanics at Billings Vo-Tech until his retirement in June of 1994.
In July of 2017 with declining health, he moved to Oklahoma with his son Bill, daughter-in-law Diana, and family where he remained until his death.
Walt is survived by his daughter, Wanda (Lenny) Boyer; daughter-in-law, Diana Putnam; 4 grandchildren, Brandalyn Vorpagel, Cody Putnam, Tristan Putnam, Dylan Putnam; 5 great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Hunter, Atali, Elijah, Tyce; sisters, Mabel Haynie, Bernice (Bob) Wagner, Florence Larson, Glennys Ulschak.
He is preceded in death by his son, Bill; parents, Leslie and Martha Putnam; brothers, Clint, Bob, Grant; sisters, Nina Lawler, Dorothy Pollock, Norma Heyne, and many close relatives on the Putnam and Harrison sides of the family.
