Victor Dean Pollock, 79, of Oklahoma City, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones into the awaiting arms of Our Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 2:30 am.
He was born to Riley E. Pollock and Lena M. Myers Pollock on January 6, 1935 in Oklahoma City.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Rebecca S. Cagle; brothers, Donald Pollock and James Pollock; sister, Darlene Pollock and first wife Gayle Sayers Pollock.
He is survived by their children; Guy Allen Pollock, Dawn Marie Pollock Johnson and husband Jon of Walnut Springs, Texas, Brenda E. Pollock Tice and husband Greg of Moore and Michael D. Pollock and wife Robin of Moore. Victor found the love of his life, Evelyn N. Castor and married her on February 7, 1981 in Oklahoma City. He is also survived by her children; Monte Rowe Cagle of Oklahoma City, Kimberly K. Cagle Zamorano and husband Jesse of Oklahoma City, Karen K. Cagle Baltes and husband Kyle of Oklahoma City, Kristine K. Cagle Parsons and husband Patrick of Edmond; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and brother Rex Pollock of Rockwall, Texas.
Vic had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest, serving in U.S. Navy in both the Korean and Vietnam War from February 14, 1952 to December 17, 1960 as an operations engineer. Before being honorably discharged on December 17, 1960 as an E-5 BT Second class he earned a Navy Occupation Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal among others. Deployed to service on ships: USS Miller, USS Essex, USS FDR.
Vic was an active member of and served on the board of the VFW 9265 as well as motor home club, State Okie Bagos, President of Sooner Schooners, TP's, motor home clubs, and OKIE CB Club (BOILERMAN).
He helped raise funds to purchase shoes for inner city school children for a number of years. Vic monitored channel 9 for years as a REACT Member, assisting persons in need by using CB radios. He was a member of the Masons, Uriah lodge 227 and enjoyed his fellow Masonic brothers. He also helped special needs children through the India Shrine Temple as a driver to Shreveport, Louisiana. It was one of Vic's greatest joys.
Pop had a passion for youth; he refereed years of baseball and football he would run and sweat as hard as the children did. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at Christmas time in the red velvet suit. It was tailored for him, exact and precise, every detail as the jolly old man at the North Pole would have had, down to the groomed white beard and large black boots.
The most honorable heart felt duty was serving proudly as a Disabled American Veterans Oklahoma Honor Guard Chapter 85 "blowing" taps for the US Military men and women who had fought for this great country. It was the DAV men of Chapter 85, who encouraged Vic to join the Odd Fellows, to further serve, and have a positive influence on today's youth.
We the family, wish to send a special "thank you" to Dr. Long, Dr. Doug and the LVAD team and staff of 8 East at Integris Baptist Hospital for their support and love for the past six years.
He left a joyous imprint on the hearts of all who knew him and will be deeply missed.
