Lorece Marriott

November 8, 1925 - January 5, 2011

Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Lonny Lorece Marriott, age 85, of Norman will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 13, 2011 at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 3939 West Tecumseh Road in Norman with Father Thomas Boyer and Father John Metzinger officiating, and Byron Jacobson assisting.

A Prayer Vigil will be be held at Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church at 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 12, 2011.

Lorece was born November 8, 1925 in Muse, Oklahoma the daughter of Lonny and Gena Allen. She passed away Wednesday evening, January 5, 2011 at her home in Norman.

Lorece graduated from Talihina High School in Talihina, Oklahoma in 1944. She later enrolled at Baylor University completing studies in Nursing in 1946. She then completed a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University.

She was united in marriage to Captain Thomas E. Marriott on October 10, 1952 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Later, Mr. Marriott earned the rank Colonel in the United States Army and he and Lorece traveled abroad, answering various calls of duty. Colonel Marriott retired from the Pentagon and was honorably discharged from the United States Army on July 31, 1975. Later that same year, they moved to Norman from Springfield, Virginia.

While in Norman, Lorece was involved in various organizations, helping and supporting people, often privately, to further advance the quality of life of those she was involved with. Lorece and Colonial Marriott were one of the founding families that helped establish and build Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman.

Lorece, along with her great sense of humor, enjoyed laughing and visiting with her family, friends and the family she had at Saint Marks. She was a very dependable and trustworthy woman, subtly offering advise to those in need. She was a great listener and enjoyed improving the quality of life of those she encountered.

A longtime member of Saint Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lorece served as a volunteer in various capacities at the church. She also was a member of the Brookhaven Garden Club and the Norman Military Wives Club.

When she wasn't serving others, Lorece enjoyed reading and working in her yard and spending quiet time with God.

The family gives their heartfelt thanks to the team of special ladies for the tender loving care they gave to Lorece.

Visitation for Lorece will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman and continue until 8:00 pm.

Survivors include one brother, J.M. Allen and his wife, Loretta of Talihina, OK; one sister, Susan Drake and her husband, David of Edmond, OK; one brother-in-law, Hugh Marriott and his wife, Phyllis of Morristown, New Jersey; one sister-in-law, Kappy Beck of Augusta, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Colonel Thomas E. Marriott on July 31, 2002.

Lorece will be laid to rest at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 13, 2011 beside her husband at the Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman. Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com.
