William "Bill" Owen Mannick
October 26, 1926 - November 7, 2011
Mannick, William "Bill" Owen of Norman, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 in Norman. He was born to Henry and Latisha Mannick on October 26, 1926 in Akron, Ohio.
Bill joined the Navy in 1942 and was a gunner's mate on a LST in WWII. He was part of the invasion of Normandy Beach. Bill served our country for 4 years. Bill was one of those with the Byrd expedition leaving Norfolk by way of the Panama Canal on a 10,000 mile voyage through ice packs, ice bergs and rough waters of the Antarctic Ocean.
After his time served in the military, he attended Ohio State University obtaining a degree in Industrial Engineering working 45 years in the industry.
Bill enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing and his younger days bowling and as a volunteer firefighter.
Bill was a member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Vicki of the home; daughter, Terri Zielonko and husband Steve; two grandsons, Alex and Matthew; stepson, Greg Hoffman and wife Cindy; twin granddaughters, Tiffany and Megan. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 419 S. University Blvd of Norman. A committal service will conclude at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2011.
