Marshall "Mac" D. MacDonald
January 22, 1923 ~ March 2, 2017
Retired SFC Marshall Douglas MacDonald, son of Malcom MacDonald and Sophia Thomas MacDonald, was born January 22, 1932 in St. Clare Shores, Michigan. At the age of 20, he joined the Army. His duty assignments included Germany; Fort Chaffee, AR; Fort Smith, AR; Fort Shafter, HI; and Fort Sill, OK. He also served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea. He was part of the military ceremony to celebrate Hawaii's statehood.
On March 10, 1956, he married Bennie Marie Edelman Magnusson at Fort Smith, AR. This union was blessed with four children. He retired in 1972 at Fort Sill, OK and made Lawton his permanent home. He quietly departed this life on March 2, 2017 at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, one son-in-law, Gerold Allen Anderson and former son-in-law, Randy Maples.
During his military career, he received the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star for Heroism in Ground Combat, and the Bronze Star with First Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces, and the Purple Heart for Wounds Received in Action. He was extremely proud of the time he served defending his country. After retirement, Marshall worked for the Transportation Department at Fort Sill and for the city of Lawton's Parks and Recreation Department. As a dedicated fisherman, he greatly enjoyed his job with the Lake Division at Lawtonka.
His life will be cherished in the lives of his children: Donna Maples Thompson (Bruce) of Radcliff, KY, Terrance MacDonald, Elizabeth Tuggle, and Sharon Anderson, all of Lawton, OK. He is also survived by his wife of 61 years, Bennie Marie, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was a wonderful grandfather and dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
