William Sunday Hatchell
October 6, 1928 - May 5, 2008
William Sunday Hatchell, Sr., 79, of MWC, Ok passed away May 5th, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. His spirit and love for life leave us all with pride and honor to be his descendents.
William (Bill) was born Oct. 6, 1928 in Effingham, S.C. to Harris D. and Sue Pearl (Miles) Hatchell.
Graduating from Burgaw High School in 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for a rewarding career of 20 yrs. active duty and 10 yrs reserve. From 1946-1954 Bill served with the 307th Bomb Group/Wing as a radar Tech. during the Korean War. He also did duty in Greenland, England, N. Africa, Bermuda, Tampa, Fl., Biloxi, Ms. and retired at T.A.F.B. in 1966. While serving 10 yrs in reserve status, he earned an Assoc. Degree in electronics at Rose St. College spending the following 14 yrs. employed at K.A.P. Corp. as an electronics Tech. He finished his career with 9 yrs. in private business.
Bill married Lila Mae Walker of Signal Mt., Tn. on Oct. 13, 1952. Bill and Lila were blessed with twelve children and one nephew, George Lurry.
He also spent devoted time with the Masonic and Shriner Lodges while serving on the Directors Staff. He lived a full life mostly working two jobs to provide for his family of 15. Bill enjoyed working on cars, electronics, and anything needing fixed. He enjoyed bluegrass/gospel music as a gifted singer, guitar, banjo and mandolin player.
Bill was preceded in death by sister, Doris Chism; son, Steven L. Hatchell and mother-in-law, Anna B. Walker.
William S. Hatchell, Sr. is survived by his wife, Lila; sister, Margaret; sons: Bill, Jr., Stan, Ron and stepson Jimmy; daughters: Debra, Susan, Melinda, Anna, Donna, Rebecca and Theresa; Nephew, George; 15 grandchildren: Scott, Maurice, Jon Paul, Nick, Steffanee, Francisco, Rico, Tia, Carmen, Angela, Michael, Henry, Erica, Jennifer, Katherine; 6 great grandchildren: Destiny, Lorenzo, Francisco III, Nevaeh, Sabree and Julian.
Tech Sgt. William S. Hatchell, Sr., you will be greatly missed by all your family and friends. We salute you on your final flight home. May God Bless You.
