J. D. Gunn

February 20, 1932 ~ November 14, 2003

J. D. Gunn was born February 20, 1932, near Gracemont, Oklahoma, to Alonzo H. and Bessie Wolf Gunn. He passed from this life at his home in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on Friday evening, November 14, 2003, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 24 days, following an extended illness.
J. D. grew up in the Gracemont and Oney communities, and graduated from Oney High School in 1952. He and the former Jewel Ferguson were married on December 13, 1952, in the Oney Baptist Church. He entered the United States Air Force in 1953 and served over 20 years. He was stationed in Germany, Hawaii, and the Philippines. He did one tour of duty in Vietnam in 1970. He retired form the Air Force in Dover, Delaware, where he remained for several years. He attended college there, and worked at a variety of jobs there and in Florida before he retired in 1993. He and Jewel moved to Chickasha from Tampa, Florida, 8 years ago. They celebrated their 50th anniversary last December with a large party given by their children. He loved to go fishing, liked building houses, and enjoyed tinkering with cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, George, 4 half-brothers, and one half-sister. Survivors include his wife Jewel, of the Chickasha home; two daughters, Anneliese Carlson and her husband, Gene, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, and Belinda Gunn of Jackson, Wyoming; one son, Jerry Walker of Yukon, Oklahoma; other relatives and may loving friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 18, in the Steverson Funeral Home Chapel, Anadarko, with Rev. Kim Hayes, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church, Chickasha, officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, Oklahoma, under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home.
