Jo Givens

March 8, 1914 ~ May 10, 2007

Jo Givens was born March 8, 1914 in Mustang, Oklahoma to Mary Cromwell Potter and John Potter. She died Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 93.
When Jo was 2 years old the family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where she grew up. She graduated from high school in 1932, and Central State Teacher's College in 1934, where was was awarded the outstanding all around athlete for her class. She was married to D.A. Givens for over 70 years. She started teaching school at Arcadia, and continued teaching until her retirement in 1975. She and D.A. moved to Lawton in 1949, where she began teaching at Whittier Grade School. She taught most of her career at John Adams. She was a member of the NEA, OEA, and the Retired Teachers Association. She was also an active member of the Boulevard Christian and Congregational Church.
She is survived by her husband, D.A.; two sons and daughter in law, Dee Givens and Babs Yarmuk Givens, Holly Lake, Texas; and Rex Givens, Lawton; 2 granddaughters and their husbands: Janis and Randy O'Bier and Dena and Roger Williamson; 3 great-granddaughters: Brooke, Brittney, and Jordan; a great-grandson, Cole; and many other relatives and friends. Jo was preceded in death by her parents; and 7 brothers and sisters.
