D.A. Givens

January 8, 1912 ~ December 8, 2007

D.A. Givens was born on January 8, 1912 in Manitou, OK to Miles E. and Beulah Tramel Givens. He died on December 8, 2007 in Lawton, OK at the age of 95. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Boulevard Congregational and Christian Church, 55th and W. Gore, with Ralph Alexander officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11, from 10 AM to 7 PM at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Ft Sill National Cemetery on Thursday.
D.A. graduated from high school, and married Jo Potter. He served his country in the Marine Corps during WW II, and returned to college after the war where he earned his Bachelors degree in Industrial Arts. D.A. and Jo moved to Lawton in 1949 with their two sons to join his brother in business. He was offered a position with the Lawton Public Schools as an industrial arts teacher, and eventually headed the Distributive Education Department at Eisenhower High School. D.A. and Jo both retired in 1975.
D.A. was active with the Boy Scouts and the Breakfast Optimist Club where he served as club President and District Lieutenant Governor. He belonged to the Comanche County Retired Teachers Association, was a life-long Democrat, and was an active member of Boulevard Christian and Congregational Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of over 70 years, Jo, who died earlier this year.
Survivors include two sons; Rex Givens of Duncan, and Dee Givens and wife Babs Yarmuk Givens of Holly Lake, TX; granddaughters Janis Ferguson and Dena Williamson; great grandchildren Brooke, Brittney, Jordan and Cole; sister Alma Gentry of Wichita Falls; brother Duard and wife Vera Givens of Indiahoma, and their children Kirk Givens and Jill Treisa. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in D.A.'s name to: Boulevard Christian and Congregational Church, 55th & W. Gore Blvd, Lawton, OK.
