Darryl Leroy Duncan

May 16, 1967 ~ August 8, 2020

After a brave battle with cancer Darryl Leroy Duncan passed from this life at the age of 53 to be with our Lord and Savior on August 8, 2020. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, August 28, at 3:00 p.m. at Life Center Church in Ponca City with Pastor Larry Kitchell officiating.
Darryl was born on May 16, 1967 to J.D. and Ruby (Sherbon-Crowell) Duncan in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He grew up attending Blackwell schools and the Blackwell First United Methodist Church, always sharing his contagious smile and ornery grin with everyone. During his school years Darryl participated in Boy Scouts, 4-H, FFA, band and attended Diesel Mechanic classes at Pioneer Technology.
In 1985 Darryl joined the United States Air Force. He was proud to serve our country and enjoyed the military comradery especially with his fellow AMMO comrades. During his time in Germany he loved to travel when not on duty. Exploring wineries, brew houses and food in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Paris and England were among his favorites. In 1990, he began his civilian career in the oil industry as an Operator in the Conoco Ponca City refinery and in later years was honored when asked to teach Refinery Operations classes on the Northern Oklahoma College campus to certify new operators.
In 1996 Darryl married the love of his life, Carmen VanDeburgh in Ponca City, Oklahoma where they made their home and were blessed with 2 sons, Kendall and Jacob. In 2010 Darryl accepted a position with ConocoPhillips LNG in Darwin, Australia as an Operations Specialist. The family adventure began as the Duncan's embraced the Australian life. Once the new LNG plant was operational in Darwin, Darryl returned to the Ponca City refinery. In 2013 opportunity lead him to Queensland, Australia as Operations Specialist for another new LNG plant. Upon returning in 2015, they made their home in Conroe, TX and later moved to their current home in Angleton. Darryl was assigned to assist with an LNG operation in Louisiana and in 2016 began working for Phillips 66 initially at Freeport and then joined the Sweeny refinery team.
Darryl loved people and valued the many friendships formed throughout his life. He and Carmen have opened their home to family and friends throughout the years. The Duncan house only had one rule: "Don't talk to Darryl in the morning until after his 2nd cup of coffee." Darryl believed in "giving a hand up" not merely a hand out. He enjoyed travel, learning about history, time in the pool and time on the beach, riding Harley's, cooking and having fun outdoor gatherings at their home, being a patio DJ and singing Karaoke. For those of us whose lives and hearts he touched, a part of Darryl Duncan will remain with us forever.
Darryl is survived by his wife Carmen, sons Kendall (USAF, England), Jacob (Angleton, TX); Brother Ronnie Crowell (Ponca City, OK); Sister Tamie Young (and husband Olen, Stillwater, OK); as well as much loved nephews and niece: Keith Boyer, Troy, Rusty, Shawn, Kody, and Chase Crowell; Wade VanDeburgh and Leah (VanDeburgh) Miller.
He was preceded in death by his Grand Parents Leonard and Grace (Hobaugh) Sherbon; James and Ellen (Jameson) Duncan; Parents, J.D. and Ruby; Step-Brother J.C. Duncan and Sister Karen (Crowell-Boyer) McKee.
