February 25, 1937 - July 26, 2022

Mary Frances Day, 85, passed away on July 26, 2022. She was born on February 25, 1937, to Laurel and Irene (Hamby) Payne in Konawa, Oklahoma. Surviving family include her husband of 66 years Kenneth Day of Wellston, and daughters Michele Day, Chrysti Day-Stevenson, all of Wellston, Oklahoma and Alison Smith and Randall Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and granddaughter Adrian.
Ken and Mary were married on June 9, 1956, in Grandfield, Oklahoma. Mary went to high school in Holiday, Texas and Velma, Oklahoma. She attended college at Midwestern University, El Camino Jr. College, Merced Jr. College, Rose State Community College, and the University of Oklahoma where she received her bachelor’s degree in music in 1985.
Mary worked as a switch board operator with Midwestern University, Pacific Bell Telephone, and MSI Communications. She tutored and was a substitute teacher in the area schools. Mary also owned and operated a florist shop in Choctaw for 5 years and was a choir director at St. Mark Lutheran Church for 20 years.
She described her special interests as “music, music, music!!” We think singing was her true joy in life and enjoyed doing that with her friends of faith. She also enjoyed going to church at St. Mark, flower arranging, art, and decorating. She was a member of Mid-Del Singers for years and participated in several mass choirs organized for special events city wide.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, August 5 at All Saints Lutheran Church located at 7501 E. Reno Ave., Midwest City, Oklahoma. Her family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Mid-Del Food Pantry or a charity of your choice.
