Alex Cation, Jr.

August 28, 1958 - June 16, 2023

Funeral service for Alex Cation Jr. 64, of Lawton will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Zoe Christian Center with Elder Stephanie Shaw officiating and Pastor Willie Shaw reading the eulogy.
Burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Alex Cation, Jr was born August 28, 1958 in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Alex Sr. and Josephine Cation. He was the youngest of 5 children: Johnnie, Abraham, Frankie, Virginia. On Friday, June 16, 2023, Alex transitioned from his earthly labor to eternal rest.
At an early age, Alex joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Booker T. Moore.
Alex graduated from Amanda Elzy High School, Greenwood, Mississippi in 1976. After graduation, he attended Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Mississippi, starting a Major in Art. He left school to follow in his brother Abes footsteps and joined the US Army. He served his country honorably from 1/4/77 - 12/12/82, duties in Ft. Jackson, SC., Ft. Benning, GA., and Bamberg, Germany as an Infantry Soldier.
After the military, Alex held several jobs back home in Greenwood, to name a few, he served as a Firefighter and worked for the Railroad Company. In 1997, he moved to Oklahoma City where he was employed at the VA Hospital. Then in 1998, he moved to Lawton Oklahoma and was employed by Wackenhut Correctional Facility from 1998-2003, where he met his wife, Alisha. Alex and Alisha married on January 10, 2002. They were Owners/Operators of Cations Nu Look Upholstery and Fabric store until Alex retired in 2014.
In 2001, Alex accepted Christ and joined ZOE Christian Center where he served as a Deacon, Usher, Fire Marshal, Van Driver, and Childrens Church Ministry Volunteer. Alex loved God, his family, fishing, the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Lakers, music (favorites Mississippi Mass Choir, Frankie Beverly & Maze, and Jazz), painting, drawing, taking pictures, cooking and HE NEVER MET A STRANGER!
Alex was preceded in death by his parents Alex & Josephine Cation; Brothers Johnnie and Abraham; Sister Frankie; Step-daughter Sabrina Harris Williams; Step-son Ardraegus Moss.
Alex leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Alisha Cation of the home; Sons: Joshua Harris and Demetrius Cation of Greenwood, MS; Alex Cation III of Memphis, TN; and Desmon Cation of Lawton, OK. Daughters: Alexis Harris of Greenwood, MS; Destiny Cation of Lawton, OK. Step-son; James Moss II of Lawton, OK and Step-Daughter: Kalise Angel (Joseph) of Valley, AL. Sister: Virginia Cation of Greenwood, MS; Sisters-In-Laws: Annie Phillips, Greenwood, MS;Rosie Phillips, Pheba, MS; Rosizener Cation, Greenwood, MS; Susan Cation, Becker, Minnesota; Arqueta Ricks, Eclectic, AL; Teresa Glenn (Heywood), Stone Mountain, GA; 1 Aunt, Katherine Darwin, Eclectic, AL - 18 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren, 12 Nephews, 8 Nieces, and a host of other special relatives and friends.
