Sunday, January 14, 1995 Glenn Rogers Stinnet Funeral services for Glenn R. Stinnett, 1504 Bell, who died at 7:26 p.m. Sunday in a local hospital after a two-week illness, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Dalton-Ritter Funeral home. Rev N. N. Armstrong, pastor of the Trinity Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Flower Mound Cemetery, southeast of Lawton. Mr. Stinnett was born May 6, 1895, in Purdy, Mo., and came to Lawton in 1901. Glenn was married to Maymie L. Prichard on Sept. 1, 1915, in Lawton. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Aug. 29, 1965. They lived in Grant and Custer Counties while he was employed by Barlett [Bartlett] Petroleum Co., returning to Lawton in 1930. Until his retirement in 1960, they operated a laundry service. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Neal Good [Goode], 1503 Bell; one son, E. Merle Stinnett, 1816 Dearborn; two sisters, Mrs. J. A. Kiningham, and Mrs. William Newberry, Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers. Berle [Merle] Stinnett, 2301 N. 15th; Forrest Stinnett, Edmond; and Carl Stinnett, Oakridge, Ore., and five grandchildren. |
Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 Edwin Merle Stinnett Funeral services for former Lawton resident Edwin Merle Stinnett, 91, Oklahoma City, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Lawton, with William F. Watkins, Baptist minister, officiating. Mr. Stinnett died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, in Oklahoma City. Burial with military honors will be at Flower Mound Cemetery. He was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Lawton, to Glenn and Maymie Prichard Stinnett. He attended school in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School with the class of 1935. He received his associate's degree from Cameron State Agricultural College in 1937. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the North Africa and European Theatres as the co-pilot, first lieutenant with the 394th Bomb Group. He flew 56 missions in the "The Widow Maker", a B-26 bomber. After the war, he was employed by the Lawton and Fort Sill post offices until his retirement in 1974. He married Sybil Juanita Freeman in Lawton on Jan. 12, 1947. She died Jan. 14, 1995. He traveled with his family throughout the US, and camped at most of the state and national parks. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lawton. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Stinnett II and Edna, Oklahoma City; two daughters: Marilyn Frazier, Oklahoma City; and Kimberly Woodson, Leesburg, Va.; three grandchildren: Rachel Woodson and Andrew Woodson, both of Leesburg, Va.; and Noelle Frye, Lawton; a great-grandson, Isaiah Frye; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Neal Goode, Lawton; a nephew and his wife, Randy and Remy Goode, Lawton; and a niece and her husband, Karen and Jeff Hall, Lawton; and a special sister-in-law, Vesta Pariseau, California.
