Monday, July 19, 2010 Artie Jack Mitchell Funeral services for Jack Mitchell, 83, of Geronimo will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Clymer, pastor of First Assembly of God Church, Geronimo, Oklahoma. Mr. Mitchell passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Burial will be at Flower Mound Cemetery, Lawton, Oklahoma. There will be a special viewing and visitation for family and friends on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jack was born on November 11, 1926 in Wapanucka, Oklahoma to Joe and Mary E. [Cole] Mitchell. He grew up in Sterling County, Texas and graduated from Sterling High School in 1944. He was drafted into the United States Army on March 29, 1945 and served in WWII receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Award, Army Occupation Ribbon, Japan, and the Victory Ribbon with one overseas service bar. After his honorable discharge from the military on December 1, 1946, he returned to Sterling County and married Norma Huff on September 7, 1950 in Big Springs, Texas. He worked in the oil fields for over 16 years, living in Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado and Oklahoma. The family moved to their farm in Geronimo in 1964 where Jack worked as a union truck driver and farmer, raising cattle and managed a family owned hay hauling business. He loved his family and enjoyed going to the "House of Knowledge" Leo and Ken's Truck Stop in the mornings. He is survived by his wife, Norma, of the home; two sons and daughters in law, Melvin and Wanda Mitchell, of Geronimo and David and Connie Mitchell, of Decatur, Texas; two daughters and sons in law, Mardrey and Carl Pickard, of Lawton and Elizabeth and David Parker, of Geronimo; his daughter in law, Fran Mitchell, of Lawton; two brothers and a sister in law, Fred Mitchell, of Elgin, Oklahoma and Bill and Patsy Mitchell, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; his sister, Eula Mae Taylor, of Ballinger, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Mitchell; his son, Joe Marvin Mitchell; and three brothers, Bob Mitchell, RB Mitchell and Joe Boy Mitchell.
