George "Russell" John

Funeral service for George Russell John, 82, Lawton will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in the First Baptist Church, Lawton with Shane Hall, Pastor, and Randy Sullivan, Duncan officiating.

Russell passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at his home southeast of Lawton.

Burial will be in Flower Mound Cemetery, Lawton under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Russell was born February 6, 1931, south of Lawton to Lyman and Madge [Elkins] John.

He graduated from Lawton High School in 1948, where he was active in FFA and served as president his senior year. After high school Russell attended Cameron University for two years, before being drafted into the U.S. Army. After his military service, he returned to Lawton

In Lawton he met and married the love of his life, Bennie Carl Wilson.

He spent his whole life farming and ranching, and he and his dad operated a dairy until 1972. They were also in the registered Angus cattle business, and conducted an annual bull and heifer sale until 1970.

Russell was involved in numerous organizations, including board member and president of the Lawton CO-OP, board member of the Federal Land Bank Association and was superintendant of the Flower Mound Sunday School for nearly forty years

He also served as the secretary of the Flower Mound Cemetery for fifty plus years.

When Russell wasn't working he enjoyed family vacations, going to the horse races, trips with friends to Tunica, Mississippi and just spending time with family and friends, talking and remembering days gone by.

Mr. John is survived by his wife Bennie of the home, two sons; Wesley John and Mitchel John both of Lawton, his grandchildren; Russell Kriz and wife Jimmi of Lawton, Daniell Smith, Jodie Brown and Trey Brown, all of Lawton, Jena John McGuire and husband Renno of Oklahoma City, Reed Hebert and wife Ashley of Oklahoma City, and Kelsey Hebert of Lawton. Great grandchildren; Mavrik Kriz, Shailyn Wells, Grace Kriz, Trevyn Brown, Luke Hebert, his brother Ramon John, and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Josie John Brown.
