© Lawton Constitution Lawton, Oklahoma Wednesday, August 23, 2006 Alta Jewel [Wolf] Matthey Funeral for Alta Jewel Matthey, 89, of Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Danny Martin, chaplain, Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, and Ed H. Kolbe, interim pastor, officiating. Mrs. Matthey died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at her home. Burial will be at Fletcher Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. She was born Dec. 8, 1916, east of Fletcher, to Alfred Truman and Dora Fern Moody Wolf. She attended high school in Cement and college in Oklahoma City. She worked as a telephone operator and then worked at Cat's Drug Store in Oklahoma City. She married William Alan Matthey on Dec.15, 1945, in Oklahoma City, and they lived briefly in Fort Worth, where he did his medical residency. They settled in Lawton in 1951, where she was involved in the Lawton Flower Club, the Medical Wife's Auxiliary, and First Christian Church. Her husband died December 13, 1995. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William Alan Matthey II and Oxana Matthey of Lawton; a daughter and son-in-law, Paige M. and Dr. Donald K. Bynum Jr. of Durham, N.C.; five grandchildren, William Alan Matthey III of Pocatello, Idaho; Matthew James Matthey of New York; Mechelle Lee Marler of Pflugerville, Texas, Patrick Donald Bynum and Pier Matthey Bynum, both of Durham; and five great-grandchildren, Alexander Troy and Blake Alan Marler of Pflugerville; Quinn Christian and Breeanna Elise Matthey of Pocatello; and Emily Beasley of Lawton. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Archie Wolf; and two sisters, Eunice Moore and Vivian Moore. |
