December 2009 Laurence Byron Arthur Fletcher, Oklahoma - Laurence Byron Arthur, 74, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2009, at 3 p.m. at his home in Fletcher, Oklahoma, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Fletcher, Oklahoma, on Saturday, December 12, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Fletcher Cemetery. The family will greet guests on today from 6-8 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral Home, Fletcher, Oklahoma. Byron was born in Leon, Oklahoma, to Russell and Thelma (Chastain) Arthur on November 25, 1935. He married Dolores June Duncan, April 16, 1955, in Gainesville, Texas. Byron was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fletcher, Oklahoma. He will be remembered as a hard worker and an avid sports fan, but his greatest love and enjoyment was his family. He was employed by Hastings Construction Company at the time of his death. He went from his work boots to his death bed and wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Alicia Ann Arthur, his parents, Russell Arthur and Thelma Arthur, four brothers, Cecil Arthur, Jack Arthur, Adrian Arthur, and Bennett Arthur, four sisters, Cleda Davenport, Cecile Sharum, Esther Baker and Thelma Faye Arthur. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Arthur of the home; two sons, Larry Arthur and wife, Debbie of Fletcher, Oklahoma, Barry Arthur of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; one daughter, Robin and husband, Randy Thurman of Fletcher, Oklahoma; two sisters, Jean Hall of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Ouilda Green of Ardmore, Oklahoma; one brother, Ray Arthur and wife, Jo of Burkburnett, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Joan Arthur of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Ruby Lee Arthur of Fletcher, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Holly Phillips, Shaun Strickland, Eric Arthur, Mary McDonald, and Andrew Arthur; and four great-grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips, Hannah Arthur, Holden Arthur, and Cheyene Arthur. Casket bearers will be Shaun Strickland, Eric Arthur, Andrew Arthur, Kevin Phillips, Justin McDonald, and Mary (Arthur) McDonald. Honorary casket bearers are Aubrey Ambrose, John Ambrose, Jimmy Jones, Billy McKean, Mike and Janice Hastings, Richard (Dickey) Terry, Don Tedder, and Sammy Reyes. Donations and contributions can be made to the Fletcher First Baptist Church building fund, Fletcher, Oklahoma and Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma.
