Martha Schrader

April 11, 1943 - April 22, 2019

Martha Carroll Schrader, age 76 of Elgin, OK, passed away Monday, April 22, 2019 at her home. Martha was born April 11, 1943 in Frederick, OK, the youngest of four children born to George Lee Ross and Opal Lillian (Hiner) Ross. Martha grew up a country girl in Frederick and attended Frederick schools. As a young girl she learned how to work hard in the cotton fields and at home. At age 17 she married Joe Ledwig on Jan. 1961 in Frederick. Together they raised one daughter, Judy.
Martha lived in many years in Baton Rouge, La and Bay City, TX area. While living there she worked for the Dept. of Human Services and later Blue Cross and Blue Shields. In 1973 she moved to Elgin, OK and worked at Fort Sill Army Hospital as a medical secretary. She retired after more than 27 years of dedicated service.
Martha later met and married Albert Schrader. They were married on January 22, 1999, in Purcell and they made their home. Martha was a woman of great faith and an active member of the Sunray Baptist Church in Purcell. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the Women's Missionary Association and enjoyed visiting area nursing home. She was a member of the Stealey H.C.E and an annual volunteer for Operation Christmas. Martha enjoyed quilting and crafting and showing her handy work at the local county fair. She also looked forward to sharing her gifts with family and friends. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed!
After Albert passed away in 2012, Martha moved back to Elgin, the place she called home and to be close to her daughter, Judy and her family. For the past five years she has been active at the Elgin Senior Nutrition Center and she attended Connection Church.
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Albert Schrader in 2012, Her parents, George and Opal Ross, Her siblings, Lura King, Don Ross and Duane Ross.
Martha is survived by: Her daughter, Judy Jackson and husband Rickey of Fletcher; four grandchildren; Niki Combee and husband Jonathan of Elgin, Ryan Hale of Broken Arrow, OK, Lyndra Broadfoot and husband Tanner of Broken Arrow, Jennifer Hall and husband Alan of Broken Arrow. 7 great grandchildren; Lodan, Caden, Jayce, Isaiah, Gunner, Gabriel and Boston. several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. She also leaves behind several of Albert's children and grandchildren.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 29, 2019, at Connection Church in Elgin, OK. Burial will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. Memorial may be made to the Elgin Nutrition Center, 801 1st St. Elgin, OK 73538. Send online condolences @ wilsonlittle.com.
