Alfred served in the National Guard. He started working in Smith's Grocery Store at a young age and pumping gas for Ridley Gas Station until he met Pauline Lolli who hired him to work at Red's Grocery. He pipelined with his son, brother-in-law and nephew until he retired in 2005.
Alfred married Janice Iola Vick on November 23, 1966 in Coalgate. There were married 56 wonderful years. She said she always picked him because he made her laugh and Alfred knew everyone. Alfred was a faithful member of the Olney Baptist Church and loved their youth group. He enjoyed camping and fishing on Boggy at Olney. He was always the camp cook. He told everyone many times how he taught Janice to cook when they got married. He credited himself for her turning out to be such a good cook.
