DENNIS FORTNER
TEXARKANA, TEXAS-Services for Dennis Volley Fortner, 65, Texarkana, Texas, formerly of the Lula area are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Rocky Point Missionary Baptist Church, his brother, Rev. David Fortner will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Coal County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Fortner died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at a Texarkana hospital. He was born October 16, 1943 near Lula, Oklahoma to James Marvin “Short” and Beatrice Vera Brooks Fortner. He attended Lula schools and graduated from Tupelo High School.
Mr. Fortner was a Brick Mason and a member of Red Springs Baptist Church in Texarkana, Texas.
Survivors include two sons, Brad Fortner and wife Susan, Ada, and Scott Fortner and wife Brandy, Ada; one daughter, Shawnarae Denise Meredith and husband Kevin, Texarkana, TX; his mother, Beatrice Fortner, Ahloso; two sisters, Patsy Young, Ahloso and Joy Baker, Ahloso; three brothers, Kenneth Fortner, Lula, Ellis Fortner, Lula, and David Fortner, Canton, TX; nine grandchildren, Brandon Fortner, Braden Fortner, Teighlor Fortner, Sydnee Fortner, Jake Fortner, Matthew Fortner, Hannahh Fortner, Kevin Meredith, and Logan Meredith.
Bearers will be Clay Young, Kenny Fortner, Travis Fortner, David Wayne Fortner, Robert York, and David Stewart.
