Woodrow Wilson Gwinn

Funeral services for Woodrow Wilson Gwinn, a longtime Coal County resident, were held Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Rev. Lynn Tyson officiating. Burial was in Moore Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.

Mr. Gwinn was born January 28, 1923 in Parker, OK to James Byrd and Rossie Ann (Prince) Gwinn and passed away May 10, 2011 in Coalgate at the age of 88. He attended school at Ocnee and Olney and married Wanda Jean Davidson on October 10, 1942 in Mangum, OK. Mr. Gwinn was a brakeman (railroad) at the Army Ammunition Base in McAlester and retired from there in 1988. He was a member of the Jesus Name Church of Olney, loved fishing, hunting, going to church, reading his Bible and gardening. Mr. Gwinn loved being around his children and grandchildren. His favorite gift was money and he would put it in his pocket right quick. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a POW during World War II.

Survivors include his children, James Gwinn and wife Norma of Moore, OK, Nadine Mowdy and husband Jesse of Coalgate, Dave Gwinn and wife Kay of Olney, Kenneth Gwinn and wife Diane of Durant and Roger Gwinn and wife Teena of Bentley; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; son-in-law, Reese Vick of Olney; brother, Sisroe Gwinn and wife Mavis of Cottonwood; sisters, Mary Davidson of Coalgate and Anna Belle Hearell of Alabama; brothers-in-law, Floyd Davidson and wife Gean of Moore and Mack Davidson and wife Viola "Cricket" of Moore; sister-in-law, Leota Nickell and husband James of Moore; along with numerous other relatives and many dear and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents James Byrd and Rossie Ann (Prince) Gwinn, wife, Wanda Jean (Davidson) Gwinn,; daughter, Wanda Lou (Gwinn) Vick; sister, Louella Blancett; brothers, Mark Gwinn, Joe Gwinn, Dave Gwinn and Monroe Gwinn; brothers-in-law, Lee Davidson and Kenneth Davidson; three half- sisters and eight half-brothers.

Casketbearers were Tony Gwinn, Curtis Vick, Donald Vick, Daniel Vick, Ricky Mowdy, Jeff Mowdy and Roger Gwinn, Jr. Honorary bearers were Floyd Davidson, Mark Davidson, James Nickell and Sisroe Gwinn.
