Rose Marie (McDougal) Thornhill, age 96, a Coalgate resident was born on March 17, 1922, to John David and Rosa Anna (Sparks) McDougal, at Richville, OK. Rose passed away on February 7, 2019 at Coalgate, OK. at the age of 96 years, 10 months and 21 days.

Rose attended school at Krebs, Bache & graduated in 1940 from Haileyville High School. After graduation she attended secretarial school working in Pennsylvania and then Douglas Aircraft plant in OKC where she met and married Ernest Gilbert Thornhill in 1943 at Yuma, AZ. After his discharge from the Marines in 1945 they moved to his home town of Tifton, GA and became owner/operator of Thornhill Construction Company. Rose was of the Baptist faith; she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tifton, GA., where she taught Sunday school. After Ernest’ death in 1986, she returned to Oklahoma. She enjoyed working in her yard and growing a variety of flowers. She had a God given talent of writing religious and patriotic poetry along with songs that she composed with music. When Rose was 16, Baxter Music Co. published her poem “Sips of Life”, she has had several published in local newspapers & books. Rose was a wonderful wife, mother & grandmother who devoted her life to God and her family.

Rose is survivedby her daughters Tanya Thornhill of Coalgate, OK, Karen Eddings & husband Richard of Coalgate, OK GRANDSONS: Roy Hopkins & wife Ashley of Coalgate, OK Jason Eddings & wife Amanda of Ada, OK Shane Eddings & wife Kristi of Stuart, OK GRANDDAUGHTERS: Patricia Waite & husband Jim of Georgia Amanda Eddings of Norman, OK 6-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, Along with many dear & loved family & friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents John David and Rosa Anna (Sparks) McDougal, HUSBAND: Ernest Gilbert Thornhill, INFANT SON, SISTERS: Gertrude Dixon, Elsie Harding, Violet Bryant, Joyce Ward, Johnye DrummondsBROTHER: Alva D. (Mac) McDougal
