November 8, 1936 ~ August 12, 2022

ouis John Sandmann Jr., passed away in McAlester, Oklahoma on August 12, 2022, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 4 days. Louis was born on November 8, 1936, to Louis John Sandmann and Gladys Gibson Sandmann. He attended Cottonwood Elementary School and graduated from Coalgate High School in 1954. Shortly after High School, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Army Reserves until his discharge in 1965. Some of his fondest memories were of his time spent working for the McEntire family at their Ranch in Chockie Oklahoma. Louis was an accomplished cowboy although he modestly referred to himself as "almost a real cowboy". In 1988 Louis retired from the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, where he worked as a warehouse worker and forklift operator. He then became a full-time farmer and rancher, caring for the farm that was originally established by his parents in the 1920s along the banks of Muddy Boggy Creek in Cottonwood, Oklahoma. He loved looking after his cattle and growing and expanding his pecan orchard. It would be hard to find another man in Southeastern Oklahoma that knew more about pecans including grafting, nutrition, and pest management. Louis was a member of the Oklahoma Pecan Growers Association, the Masonic Lodge #211 of Coalgate and American Legion Post 242. Louis was preceded in death by his parent's Louis John Sandmann and Gladys Gibson Sandmann, his grandson, Chance Elliott Sandmann and Sister-in-law Charlotte Sandmann. Louis is survived by his three children, Mark Russell Sandmann and wife Rebecca of Atoka, Oklahoma, Kelly Clark Sandmann and wife Dana of McAlester, Oklahoma, and Johnny Joe Sandmann and wife Tara of Coalgate, Oklahoma His brother Frederick Lyle Sandmann of McAlester, Oklahoma His Grandchildren, Matthew Prescott Sandmann and wife Dawna of Atoka, Oklahoma, Jordan Hearod and husband Jon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Weston Clay Sandmann of Atoka, Oklahoma, William Clark Sandmann of Atoka, Oklahoma, Amelia Carolyn Sandmann, Elizabeth Glory Sandmann and Julia Louise Sandmann, all of Coalgate, Oklahoma. His Great Grandchildren, Abigail Sandmann, Caitlin Sandmann, and Bethany Sandmann of Atoka, Oklahoma and Caroline Hearod of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cousin Patsy Jones of Midwest City. Special Friend, Carolyn Reed, who he affectionately referred to as the "Old Settin' Hen"
