William Edward Denny

Funeral services for William Edward "Ed" Denny, a long time Coalgate resident, were held Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Calgate with Re. Bill Weathers officiating assisted be Gene Lang. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.
Mr. Denny was born November 5, 1924 in Wapanucka, OK to William "Bill" I. and Dolly Foster Denny and passed away March 10, 2010 in Coalgate at the age of 85. He graduated from Coalgate High School and attended East Central University for one year. Ed married Velda Kirkland on May 2. 1947 in Sherman, worked for the Army Ammunition Plant for 31years and also worked for Jim Epperson Funeral Service. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Coalgate where he served as a deacon, then as an Elder. He was a Navy veteran, was a 52 year member of the Mason Lodge, served 12 years on a Coalgate City Council. was a 50 Scottish Rite Mason and also served on Coalgate School Board.
Survivors include his wife Velda Denny of the home; son, Eddie Denny and wire Mary Helen of Greensboro, NC; daughter Edra Carr of Atoka; grandsons, Greg Denny and wife Lori of Pittsburg, PA, Kevin Carr and wife Regina of Atoka, Kyle Denny of Shrevepot, LA, and Joey Denny and wife Aimee of Geensboro, NC; great granddaughter, Brittaney Carr of Atoka; great grandsons, Bret Carr of Atoka, Alex and Sam Denny of Pittsburg, Pa, Nolan Denny of Greensboro, NC; step-great grandson, Brendon Botham; step-grandaughters, Brooke and Vicotria Spiroff; sister Katy Bergner; sister-in-law, Georgia Denny; along with nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Dolly Denny, brother Robert Denny and sister Mary Louise Phipps.
Casketbearers were Tammy Palmer, Joe Avanzini, Jim Carr, Greg Denny, Joey Denny, Kevin Carr, Kyle Denny, and Bret Carr. Honorary bearers were James Barnes, James Nelson, Roy Dan Burns, Jimmy Parker, Bill Avanzini, Johnny D. Ward, Tony Corsini, Buddy Haraway, and members of Masonic Lodge.
