Funeral services for Wanda Lee Smith Childers, a longtime Coalgate resident, will be held Wednesday, (today) October 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Unsell and Rev. Bill Weathers officiating. Burial will be in Coalgate Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.
Mrs. Childers was born January 14, 1927 in Coalgate to Richard and Odney Kent Smith and passed away October 17, 2009 in Ada at the age of 82. She attended Coalgate Schools and married Edward Childers on July 14, 1947 in Rock Springs, Wyoming. She worked for many years at Coalgate Schools and retired as cafeteria manager after 24 years. Mrs. Childers was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sons, Gaylin Childers and wife Lynn of Coalgate and Richard Childers and wife Debbie of Coalgate; daughter, Kim Johnson of Owasso, OK; two sisters, Pat Means of Birmingham, AL and Sue Sartin of Atoka; brother, Jimmy Smith and wife Linda of Duncan, OK; sister-in-law, Wynema Smith of Coalgate; grandchildren, Justin Childers and wife Andrea, Marti Spears and husband Brad, Jodi Lacker and husband Chad, Jana Duncan and husband James, Bailey Johnson and Morgan Johnson; nine great grandchildren; along with other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Childers ; parents, Richard and Odeny Kent Smith; daughter Connie Taylor; son-in-law, Billy Raymond Smith; brothers, Leon Smith and Raymond Smith; and sister, Laura Faye Smith.
Casketbearers will be Gary Vaughn , Eddie , Chili Joe Bills, Danny Ward, Jerry Stephens, and Jimmy Jo Wilson; honorary bearers will be J. D. Smith, Ernest Paul Fanning, J.C. Ward, Leon Lanoy, Dr. John Linton, Pat Ferrero, Murl Ward, Betty Hartsfield, Freda Rogers and Gloria Williams.
