Memorial service for Peggy Asher were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2013, Oklahoma Methodist Manor in Tulsa .
Peggy Gassaway was born on September 19, 1924, Coalgate, OK to P.L. and Lillian (Fooshee) Gassaway and passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the age of 89.
She received her bachelor's degree from East Central University and her master's from Oklahoma State University. Peggy taught journalism and business in Shidler Public Schools and at Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa, OK.
Peggy and her first husband, Marcus Whitt , were very active in the First Methodist Church of Shidler, OK and the community for many years. Marcus died in 2002. Peggy married Tipton Asher in 2003.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Tipton; her sons and daughters-in-law: Marcus Burns Whitt II and his wife Pam, Edmond, OK; and Jim Whitt and his wife Sondra, Tulsa, OK; stepson, Richard Asher and his wife Barbara, Alaska; grandchildren, Aaron Whitt, Sarah Whitt, Marcus Burns Whitt III, and Evan Whitt; and great-grandchild, Elijah Whitt.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her first husband, Marcus Burns Whitt; and two sons, Robert Patrick Burns in 1956 and John Gassaway Whitt in 1979.
