Evelyn Ione (McLellan) Guffey, a Tupelo resident, passed away June 12, 2011 in Tupelo, OK. She was born October 21, 1923 in Coalgate, OK to James Calvin & Cora (McLain) McLellan. Services will be held June 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Stan Ward, Randy Ward & Danny Kay Ward officiating and David Boggs assisting. Burial will be in Byrd's Prairie Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.
Evelyn attended Pine, Parker & graduated from Coalgate High School. She also attended Murray State College. She worked as a dietician and was a Veteran of the Army Air Force serving during WW II. Evelyn was married to J.C. Ward and later married Jack Guffey on March 19, 1958 in Grayson County, TX. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1971.
Survivors include children, Cathy Guffey and husband Charles of Tupelo, OK., Jay Ward and wife Sam of Centrahoma, OK., and Jack Guffey and wife Kim of Allen, Ok.; brother, Clabber McLellan and wife Hazel of Coalgate, OK.; sister, Gracie Etoy Linker of Surprise, AZ.; 14 grandchildren, Teresa and Mike Dunn, Jayboy and Julie Ward, Gail Guffey, Chris and Amber Guffey, Maddie Ward, Samantha and David Hunter, Tiffany Meek, David Meek, Ben Meek, Jacob Compton; 13 great grand-children, Colton and Maddison Dunn, Abby and Cooper Herrara, Kameron Rhoads, Bella Guffey, Sophya Hunter, Destiny Guffey, Ryan Guffey, Levi Guffey, Remington Guffey, Jay Cee Stringer, Sabrina Guffey.
She was preceded in death by parents; James Calvin and Cora (McLain) McLellan, husband, Jack Guffey, 3 brothers, Luke McLellan, Levi McLellan, William “Pete” Griggs, 1 sister, Ethel Wood.
Casketbearers are Terry Young, Stan Ward, Marlin Guffey, Jeb Bailey, Jeremy Guffey, and Bobby Miller. Honorary Pallbearers are Chief of Choctaw Nation, Greg Pyle, Assistant Chief of Choctaw Nation, Gary Batton, Choctaw Nation Dist. #12, James Frazier, Sheriff Roy Deck, Alvin Pebworth and David Meek.
