Mary Kathryn Stroud, of Norman, died, Tuesday, August 28, 2012.
She was 78 years old. She is a Christian.
Mary was born to Roy and Alice Milner in Olustee Oklahoma on
November 20, 1933. She was married to Jerry Stroud in Altus,
Oklahoma in 1950 . Together they raised four children and helped
anchor a family that includes 17 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
Mary was a home maker. She was a devoted wife and a loving
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In his last year
Jerry used to look around the livingroom, where he often sat,
and comment on how much he enjoyed the way Mary had decorated
and arranged the house. He loved being in the home she made.
Jerry preceded her in death by 13 months.
Mary was a wonderful cook and an expert seamstress-- Jerry liked
to tell the story of Mary following a woman out of a restaurant,
sketching what the woman was wearing so she could go home and
make it. And who could count all the dresses and other pieces of
clothing she made for daughter, sons, and grandchildren.
Mary did that wonderful duty of speaking the obvious to growing
children and then repeating it as often as they needed. She
filled such needs of our hearts in so many ways... We will miss
her deeply.
Although she was surrounded by a God-fearing family in her
early years, Mary actually became a Christian when she was forty
while living in Venezuela. A wonderful woman from church asked
Mary if she could come over and listen to Mary’s short-wave
radio. It was a trick. The lady really wanted Mary to hear the
Through the Bible broadcast out of Quito, Equador. They listened
daily for some time and God touched her heart with the gospel of
Jesus Christ. Mary believed.
Mary is survived by two sons, Tim of Norman and Michael of
Gillette Wyoming.
She is preceeded in death by her parents, her siblings, Roilyn
Danielson and Bob Milner, her husband, her son, Mark her
daughter, Celia and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers are her grandsons.
A memorial/celebration meeting will be held at Calvary Chapel of
Norman, 1401 W Boyd, at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012,
under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
