Charles Dee Moore, age 86, of Norman, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
He was born March 22, 1930 in Muskogee,
Oklahoma to James Earnest and Lee Ella (Cox) Moore. While in
high school Charles was active in 4H, public speaking
competitions, and livestock judging. Livestock judging took him
to both Kansas City and Chicago, where he won an individual
national championship. After graduation from Muskogee High
School he served four years in the Navy, then went on to get his
Business Administration degree from what is now Northeastern
State University.
Charles worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 33 years,
retiring in September, 1990. During that time he coached little
league baseball and taught Sunday school at Trinity Baptist
Church of Norman where he has been a member since 1961. After
retiring, he began coaching youth league bowling, a passion he
enjoyed for over 20 years. He was also an avid OU fan and loved
John Wayne movies and gospel music.
On September 3rd, 1955 he married Lonnie Jackson with whom he
recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Curtis Moore, sisters Helen Pitts, Francis Simmons and June Ellis, his father and mother-in-law Ralph and Navolia Jackson, and brothers-in-law Gary Jackson and Gale Schell.
He is survived by his wife
Lonnie; three sons: Lesley and wife Shiela, Curtis and wife
Chondra, and Zachary and wife Kathleen; grandchildren: Charlotte
Kuzmic and Dan, Miranda Orr and Shane, Tyson Liedtke and
Jennifer, Sara Henry and Cole, Ryan, Sam, Casey and Abby Moore;
two great-granddaughters: Kylee and Kloie; siblings Dorothy
Schell, Judy Howard, Raymond Moore, sisters-in-law Ronnie Schell
and Betty Jackson, and brother-in-law Dennis Jackson and his
wife Marilyn Jackson.
Visitation will be from 12pm - 8pm on Friday, September 16th at
Havenbrook Funeral Home, located at 3401 Havenbrook St. in
Norman. Family will be present from 6 - 8pm.
Funeral services
will begin at 10am, Saturday, September 17th at Havenbrook
Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Warren
Cemetery.
