Alan “Scott” Jackson, Sr., 61, of Norman, Oklahoma peacefully surrounded by his wife and children escaped the shackles of his illness and went to be with the Lord.
Scott was born May 20,
1952 to Dr. Walter Dunaway and Norma Lou Jackson in Miami,
Oklahoma. He was the first of three sons.
Scott was busy from the get go and loved roller skating. He was
on a competitive team at the age of 7. Doc, his dad, was a
golfer and as a young boy, Scott caddied for him in tournaments
in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas. Scotty spoke of a
particular event when he was caddying for his dad and one of the
golfers was Mickey Mantle, but it was bad day and young Scotty
was unimpressed and just wanted to go home. Scott started
working at the ripe age of 14 at Gibson’s Discount store and
saved money for his first car, a Mustang, which he raced on the
bi-ways of Miami, Oklahoma.
Scott attended school in Miami, Oklahoma and graduated in 1970.
He then attended North Eastern Oklahoma Junior College which was
one block away from his home. Although he was in pre-med
classes, his mother insisted that he take a course in accounting
and that is when he found his true avocation. He loved
accounting and graduated from the best accounting school in the
state of Oklahoma at that time, Tulsa University; graduating in
1974.
He was thrilled to work for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell (now KPMG),
a prestigious accounting firm upon graduation from TU
specializing in auditing. Scott left Peat when he was promoted
far enough up in the ranks to have to deal with the politics of
the business world. He was recruited by Riffe Petroleum in 1979
which was purchased by the Charter Corp and then by Elf
Asphalt. Scott then began working for Trans-Tel, Inc. where he
would work for 21 years starting August 19, 1992 as the Chief
Financial Officer and Excecutive Vice President. The changes in
jobs took Scott and family from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Jacksonville,
Florida to Mantua, New Jersey (near Philadelphia) and back to
Oklahoma where the family settled for good in Norman.
Trans-Tel, Inc., developed and started by Jack and Jane Morgan
(Scott and Leah’s sister and brother-in-law, has been Scott’s
love for 21 years. Scott and Jack, along with family members
and the incredible employees, enjoyed a relationship of trust
and mutual respect and have continued that relationship to this
day.
Scott and Leah met in Tulsa in 1975 on a blind date. They fell
in love and after a short engagement, they married on January
31, 1976 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Leah’s home town. They had many
adventures together and raised two incredible children, Jennifer
Ellen Jackson (Hill) and Scott Jackson, Jr. Scott loved to
spoil and surprise Leah throughout their 38 years of marriage.
Scott and Leah had such a loving marriage that it served as an
excellent role model for their kids and grandkids. Scott was
such a great influence to his family and taught them many life
lessons. To his children, Scott was seen as a man of great
integrity and a role model of what a man should be. He provided
a safe and secure home full of love and great times for his
family.
Scott enjoyed playing golf his entire life and was fortunate to
have made three holes in one. He loved to caddy for his son
during his golf tournaments. Scott also enjoyed traveling, road
trips, cruises, and listening to oldies music. He would light
up a room with his big smile and always made people feel
comfortable. He was a loyal patron of Charleston’s
Restaurant. Scott loved to sit on the back porch and smoke a
cigar and watch the fish and birds. Family was very important
to Scott and he loved spending time with his kids and
grandkids. He will be remembered by family as never being
judgmental of people, thoughtful, generous, giving, and a
comforter to many.
He is survived by his wife; son, Scotty Jackson and fiancée
Ashley Moore of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter, Jennifer Hill and
husband Chad Hill of Argyle, Texas; two brothers, Tom Jackson
and his wife Furan of Miami, Oklahoma and Jay Jackson and wife
Teresa of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jackson Hill and
Parker Hill; and aunt, Leaetta Jackson of El Dorado Springs,
Missouri.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents.
Arrangements for Scott and his family were placed in the care of
the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
