John Dondore "Don" Cies

Don
Cies was born on November 9, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Ok, to Ralph
Emerson Cies and Helen Virginia (Dondore) Cies. He passed away
on September 24, 2011, due to complications from pancreatic
cancer with his beloved family by his side.
Don was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated from Classen High
School. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he was a
member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He graduated with a
B.S. in Economics and a minor in mathematics. Don married the
love of his life, Patty Osborne in 1960. He served 8 years in
the United States Army and was honorably discharged after
achieving the rank of Captain. After his active duty in the
army, Don returned to Norman with his wife and baby daughter.
He began his own company, Don Cies Real Estate, in 1962. In
addition to real estate sales, his career included development
and building throughout Norman. His developments include
Brookhaven, Brookhaven Square, Brookhaven Village, Summit Lakes,
Summit Valley, Blue Lakes, and Blue Creek. Don was a member of
Rotary for nearly 50 years and active in many other civic
organizations in Norman. He was a founding member of the OU
President’s Associates.
Don’s hobbies and interests included breeding and showing Morgan
Horses with his family, traveling around the world with his wife
and family, golfing with friends, and oil painting. He spent
many years creating over 40 original oil paintings.
Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patty Osborne Cies;
three daughters Laura Cies, Dinah Cies, and Kristi Cies; 4
grandchildren Evan Nixon, Kasey Pierce, Morgan Pierce, and
Georgia Pierce; and brother, Richard Cies. Don was a devoted
husband, father, and grandfather.
Memorials may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, September
26, 2011 and 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2011
at the Havenbrook Funeral Home. The family will greet friends
from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services for Don are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday,
September 28, 2011 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church,
419 S. University Blvd., Norman with
interment in the Warren Cemetery.
