(Permission granted)
Reta Irene Hames, 66, of Bridge Creek, America, as she proudly
declared, passed from this life on to heaven February 23, 2012 at the Norman
Healthplex. Reta was born to Joe and Meney Holland on February 10, 1946 in
Norman, OK. Her family lived in Holcomville, a small portion of land in central
Norman that her family staked in the land run. She had 3 half-brothers and 2
half-sisters. Reta grew up knowing the value of hard work. On June 18, 1963,
Reta married the love of her life, Leroy Hames. They made their home around
Norman, OK until 1979 when they made new trails to the wide open spaces of
Bridge Creek, OK. Mrs. Hames truly enjoyed her community. Reta spent her life
supporting the hobbies of her family, attending playdays, jackpots, wrestling
matches, stock shows, and ball games. She was always the biggest fan. Years
after she left the classroom, Reta returned to study for her GED. She received
her GED and considered that one of her greatest accomplishments. Mrs. Hames
worked off and on her entire life taking care of other people. She thought the
highest calling was taking care of those that couldn’t take care of themselves.
She retired from Griffin Memorial Hospital, July 2010.
Reta is survived by her
spouse of 48 years, Leroy Hames, Sr.; 4 children, Leona and Chuck Chapman,
Larissa and Brian Tarver, Scoots and Jamie Hames, Jesse and Jenny Hames; 12
grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; 3 stepchildren, Donna and Jim Wells,
Sherrie Fairchild and Ted Shatley and James Hames and Gayla Jenkins; 7
step-grandchildren; and 16 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 1
half-brother, Buck Butler; 2 half-sisters, Joann Cross and Loretta Byford; as
well as many other family members and friends.
She is predeceased by 2 children,
Leroy Hames, Jr. and Jeanie Hames; a stepson, Ronnie Hames; her mother, Meney
Landers; father, Joe Holland; and 2 brothers, Loren Holland and Marvin Butler.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 27, 2012, at the Eisenhour
