Pastor Randy E.
Mitchell, 62, of Norman passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 in Norman. He was born
March 17, 1952 in Guymon, Oklahoma to George Curtis and Cecile (Stewart)
Mitchell.
Randy received his bachelor degree in Sociology from Oklahoma Baptist University
in 1979 and master degree in Divinity with a focus on Religious Education from
Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992. He married Sheryl Mitchell on
November 19, 1976. He worked as a youth pastor, a Norman police officer, and
while at seminary he was a security officer. He served as an Associate Pastor at
Galena Park First Baptist Church and over seventeen years as Senior Pastor at
Blair First Baptist Church. He was lovingly known to his congregation as Brother
Randy. He was a guitar playing, Mustang driving, rocking reverend. Most of all
he loved sharing the gospel. He will be remembered by his family for being the
glue that held their family together.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Randy is survived by his wife, Sheryl
Mitchell; his son, Michael Mitchell and his wife Heather; his three daughters, Randa Mitchell, Christi McGahan and her husband Micah, and Lindsay Mitchell; his
brother, Gary Mitchell of Stillwater, Oklahoma; his grandson, Clint McGahan.
Visitation for Randy will be from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014 with
family present to receive friends from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Havenbrook Funeral
Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m.,
Friday, May 16, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Cody Wells
officiating, 211 West Comanche in Norman with interment following at
Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman.

Arrangements for Randy and his family were placed in the care of the Vice family
at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
