William John McNellis

William J. McNellis, 94, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away November 8, 2014.  William was born January 12, 1920 in Frackville, Pennsylvania to James McNellis and Mary (Nicholas) McNellis.  

He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1939.  After graduation, William proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, ASPFC in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1946, receiving an Honorable Discharge.  
He married Anna Elizabeth Stoner on November 24, 1946 and they set up housekeeping in Palmyra, Pennsylvania.  William began working at Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, Pennsylvania.  
In 1966, he was transferred to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he served as Chief, Propulsion Quality Branch of Quality Assurance Division from 1981 until his retirement in 1985.
He was active in the Two in One Sunday School Class at McFarlin Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4890 in Norman, Oklahoma, The American Legion 0374, Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, Disabled American Veterans of Cleveland County #61, Grand Lodge of OK A.F. & A.M. Norman Lodge #38, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Guthrie and Chief of Quality Control, Jet Engines Tinker AFB.

William is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary McNellis, and his sister, Ruth Harpster. 

Survivors include his wife, Anna Elizabeth McNellis; daughter, Marilyn Kay Wadley of McAlester, Oklahoma, son, Robert J. McNellis of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Krista Mullican and husband Jimmy of Denison, Texas, John Wadley and wife, Jennifer of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Lindsay Hurley and husband, Matt of Apollo Beach, Florida.  

Visitation will be 6:00-7:30 PM, Tuesday November 11, 2014 at Havenbrook Funeral Home.  Services to celebrate his life will be 1:00 PM Wednesday November 12, 2014 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 419 S. University, Norman, Oklahoma. 

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma.
