Sharon LaVern Hames, age 70 of Norman, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Norman Regional Hospital.  She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Stigler, OK to the late Clyde Williams and Jewel Cole on July 7, 1946. She was raised in Park City, KS where her mother owned a small café and she waited tables.  Their family then moved to Norman, Ok during her Junior High School year.
In 1963, Sharon married the love of her life, David (Terry) Hames.  They soon began raising a family, and life was busy with 3 girls.   During those formative years, Sharon and her family enjoyed many camping trips, and time spent with friends at the lake.  Sharon was an avid skier.  She was a bowler, and was also known to shoot a pretty wicked game of pool.  It was important to her to bring her children up in the church.  Sharon was a member of Alameda Baptist Church where she and her husband taught Sunday School and were active with the youth group.

Sharon and her mother Jewel owned their own business for over 30 years on the campus of the University of Oklahoma, Jewel’s Alterations. Named one of Norman’s ‘Best in Class’, their little shop was a fixture on campus corner.  From sewing Orange Bowl patches on the OU players jerseys, making Olympic gymnast suits, to taking in and out the clothes of all those customers who had gained and lost weight over the years, there was always a story to tell.  Sharon loved the variety of people who came in to their shop and those customers who had been loyal for so many years.

Sharon is survived by her husband Terry Hames; daughters, Christie and husband Scott Walkup of Norman, Ok; Terri Lynn Garrett of Wakarusa, Ks; and Kerri and husband Randy Thomas of Macomb, OK; grandsons, Jacob and Carson Walkup; Luke and John Garrett; granddaughter, Hailey Thomas; sister, Vel Wilks of Norman, OK, two brothers, Gary Gaultney, of Midwest City, OK; Raymond Gaultney of Emporia, KS; and two nephews; Timmy and Jimmy Gaultney.

Viewing will be on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 1:00-8:00 pm at Havebrook Funeral Home.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home 3401 Havenbrook St. Norman, Ok on Monday, August 1, 2016 with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to Norman Regional Health System 901 N. Porter Norman, Ok 73071.
