Gill, Duane, 77, passed away Sunday, October 21st, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma.
He was born June
19th, 1935 in Norman, Oklahoma to Horace "Sam" and Charlotte (Barber) Gill. He
was united in marriage on April 14, 1961 in Norman to Juanita Baker.
Duane enlisted in the United States Navy when he was 17 and switched to the Air
Force four years later. He retired from the Armed Forces in 1973 after 20 years
of service and began work in Civil Service at Tinker AFB as a warehouse support
technician. Duane retired from Tinker in 2001. During his retirement years, his
love for people led him to become a Walmart greeter. He was a member of Bethel
Baptist Church since 1973 and volunteered for the Union Baptist Mission
Builders, traveling to places like Idaho and South Dakota but most often to Camp
Barnabus in Missouri. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing Uno with his family
and coffee with the Geezer's at Braums.
Duane is survived by his wife, Juanita Gill of the home; daughters, Kelly Gill
of Norman, Sandra Carpenter of Coppell, TX, and Karen Booze and husband Chuck of
Norman; brothers, Harold Gill and his twin, Wayne Gill and sisters, Mary Meyer
and Naomi Snowdon and husband Art all of Norman; grandchildren, Kendall
Carpenter, Mykayla Booze, Addysen Booze and Trinity Booze; and siblings-in-law,
Jerry and Jan Baker of Ardmore, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his
brother, Merle Gill; brother-in-law, Al Meyer and sisters-in-law, Betty Gill and
Lori Gill.
Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 23, 2012 with
the family greeting friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral
Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Bethel
Baptist Church, 1717 W. Lindsey of Norman with
interment following in Sunset Memorial
Park.
Arrangements for Duane and his family have been placed in the care of the Vice
Family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
