J.W. “Jack” Johns Jr. age 90 of Stillwater, formerly of Oklahoma City, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 6, 2015 at the Integris Hospice House in OKC.

Jack was born October 22, 1924 in Oklahoma City. He was one of four children born to J. W. Johns Sr. and Sarah Alice (Thompson) Johns. Jack grew up in Mangum, OK and in Dallas, TX where he later graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1942. That same year he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Lexington, OK for two years. There he met a young lady from Lexington by the name of Elizabeth Matilda Ille, whom he fell in love with and later married. They were married on December 22, 1944 in Purcell, OK. That same month Jack was deployed overseas and proudly served his country during WWII. After being honorably discharged he returned home to Oklahoma and remained enlisted in the US Navy Reserves until 1952. Jack and Elizabeth soon moved to OKC where Jack began working for Burroughs Adding Machine Co. For a short time he worked and lived in OKC before his company moved him to Mangum for one year. The next 14 years he lived in Shawnee before moving back to OKC in 1966. Jack retired from Burroughs after 40 plus years with the company. While living in OKC, Jack was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish for many years. He was an avid gardener and was glad to share his annual vegetable crop with his neighbors. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, fishing and occasionally golfing. He also loved keeping up with economics and world affairs. Due to his failing health, Jack moved to Stillwater in 2013 to be close to his son Gary and family.
