Ronnie Dale Slawson of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away after a protracted battle with cancer Sunday, 29 May 2011. Ronnie was born to Willie Herbert and Claudie Slawson in Norman, Oklahoma. He was the 6th child of his parents, brothers Robert, David, and Charlie and sisters Dorothy and Betty.

Ronnie was married to Eola Collins of Norman, Oklahoma in 1968. Eola is the daughter of Clarence Alvin and Marjorie Collins, both of Norman. Ronnie and Eola were married for 43 years and had two sons, Stephen Michael Slawson and Jeffrey Collins Slawson both of Norman. Stephen is married to Kristi Ann Gill and they have a son Kaleb Michael Slawson. Jeffrey has a son Jaxon Collins Slawson.

Ronnie worked diligently and tirelessly for his family and his union, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 627 for 27 years. He specialized in the operation of heavy crane and rigging and later moved into the highly demanding job of heavy machinery moving and erection. Ronnie was recognized locally and regionally as one of the best in his skill on a routine basis, culminating in his special recognition by the Oklahoma City Fire Department for his and his crews work during the recovery efforts at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. After some time off, Ronnie went back to work for A&A Trucking Company of Oklahoma City. He worked there for 5 years and often remarked that those 5 years were the best and favorite of his working career. Ronnie made some very special friends during his career.

Ronnie never had a hobby, he never made time. He was a career man, he was a company man. He knew work from an early age and that’s just how he saw his life, as a time to work and get things done. But when he was home he loved to relax and be with his family. He was very proud of his sons, Stephen Michael and Jeffrey Collins, and absolutely adored his grandchildren, Kaleb Michael and Jaxon Collins. He loved watching his TV as he relaxed at home. Nothing was better than a morning of cooking shows followed by a day of racing! He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of the home, Eola, his sons, Stephen and Jeffrey, daughter in law Kristi and his grandsons Kaleb and Jaxon. He is also survived by his brother David Ray and his wife Penny of Norman.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Herbert Slawson and Claudie Samuels, brothers Robert and Charlie, and sisters Dorothy Bledsoe and Betty Lamb.
