Rice, Lois Margaret (Higdon), 79, went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 11, 2011 in Norman, Oklahoma.
She was born
June 13, 1931 in Calumet, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Petranella
(Schaefer) Higdon.
Lois worked as a customer service representative at Southwestern
Bell for over 30 years before retiring in 1988. She was a
faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served in
various guilds at the church. Lois taught her children how to
live for the Lord by her example everyday. She would rise early
to meditate and pray before starting her day, she believed that
passion and knowledge equaled wisdom and she always greeted
people with a smile. She was a member of Alanon and taught the
English language to those that could not speak English. Lois
enjoyed writing poetry, songs and plays for the church.
Lois is survived by four sons, Charles Rice, Jr. and wife
Marcela of Katy, TX, Chris Rice and wife Melisa of Ada, OK, Fred
Rice and wife Amy of Norman and Joe Rice and wife Alba of
Haslet, TX; two daughters, Adele Countryman and husband Cam of
Cypress, TX and Regina Richards and husband Steve of Corinth,
TX; two brothers, Jim Higdon and wife Celia of Lubbock, TX and
John Higdon and wife Barbara of El Reno, OK; two sisters,
Mildred Adams of The Woodlands, TX and Martha Higdon of OKC;
sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She is
preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Anthony
Rice, Sr.; and three brothers, Robert, Charlie and Freddy.
Prayer Vigil will be held 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., Monday,
February 14, 2011 at Havenbrook Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday,
February 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with
interment following in
the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home.
