Priestley, John J.
“Jack”, 84, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 in Norman, Oklahoma. He was born
May 11, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Nellie (Doherty) Priestley. He
was united in marriage to Audrey Berg on February 4, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois.
After graduating from St. Ritas High School in 1943, John conscripted and served
in World War II until he was honorably discharged upon the wars end with the
12th Armored “Mystery Division”. Jack has remained an active member and
traveled to reunions of the 12th Armored Division since the mid 1980's. After
receiving his engineering degree, he was employed with Boeing as a Civil
Engineer in Wichita, Kansas. In 1971, John and his family relocated to Norman,
Oklahoma where he worked for MTSC (Postal Training) until his retirement in
1989. John enjoyed bowling, reading, taking cruises, working crossword puzzles
and traveling to visit his sons and grandson. He also loved trips to Las Vegas
with his family and watching OU football. He was a member of the American
Legion and the VFW and volunteered weekly at the Norman Veteran's Center.
John is survived by three sons, Patrick Priestley of Palmer, AK, Michael
Priestley of Goodyear, AZ and John Priestley, Jr. of Norman; one brother, Thomas
Priestley of Tinley Park, IL; one sister, Kathryn McKevitt of Chicago, IL; and
one grandchild, Kevin Priestley of St. Paul, MN and his mother, Deborah
Priestley of Palmer, AK.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
Audrey Priestley and his sister, Dorothy Molloy.
Memorials may be made to the 12 Armored Museum, 1289 N. 2nd, Abilene, TX 79601;
the American Lung Association, 11212 N. May Ave. #405, OKC, OK 73120; and the
American Heart Association, 5700 N. Portland, Ste 203, OKC, OK 73112.
Visitation will be held 8:00 A.M. - 6:30 P.M., Thursday, March 31, 2011 at
Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman, Oklahoma.
Prayer Vigil will be held 6:30 P.M., Thursday, March 31, 2011 in the Havenbrook
Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 A.M., Friday, April 1, 2011 at St.
Charles Borromeo Chapel in the St. Joseph Parish Family Life Center, 421 E.
Acres St., Norman with interment
following in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of
Havenbrook Funeral Home.
