Joseph Ray Meyer was born March 5, 1923. He was the oldest of 7
children born in Norman Oklahoma to Joe Meyer and Helen
(Tullius) Meyer. Ray went to be with the lord on Monday April,
23rd, 2013.
Ray attended Corn School through the 8th grade. Where he helped
on the family farm, till he established Meyer Pump Service in
1943 where he worked along side his brothers Bill and Carol
Meyer till his retirement. On January 13th, 1945 he married
Essie McHughes of Norman. They were married for 50 years until
her death in November 1995. They had 5 children together.
Ray was a member of the Moose Lodge, Golden Agers, Norman Nite
Campers and was an avid fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed a
rich and wonderful life. He loved to travel and he loved the
great outdoors. His engaging stories and great laugh will be
sorely missed by his family and friends. Ray was blessed with a
life well lived and well loved, and we all will miss him
greatly.
Ray also GREATLY treasured his life long friendship with his in
laws the McHughes. As they were ALL so very dear to his heart.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife Essie, a son Jerry Wayne
Meyer, and great grandson Tristan Wyatt Meyer, his parents, and
sisters Donna Marie Lambert and Mary Lou Pomering, and one
brother Bill Meyer.
Ray is survived by son Lynn Meyer and his wife Patsy, son Bruce
Meyer and wife Twilia, and wife of Jerry Meyer, Kathy. Daughters
Donna Meyer and Denise Meyer all of Norman, OK. And
grandchildren, Joe Meyer, Brandon Meyer, Brian Meyer, Casey
Peterson, Monica Schat, Blaine Meyer, Keith Meyer, Valerie
Garrison of Texas and Jennifer Leen of San Francisco ; two
sisters Evelyn Pomering of Texas, Delores Loeffelholz of Norman
and one brother Carol Meyer of Norman. And many nieces and
nephews.
Bearers will be Joe Meyer, Brandon Meyer, Brian Meyer, Blaine
Meyer, Keith Meyer and Kenneth Meyer.
Wake will be held Thursday, April 25th at 7:00 p.m. at the
Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman OK.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Friday April
26th, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, 211 N. Porter Ave.,
Norman, OK.
Burial will conclude in
the Saint Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Norman, OK
Arrangements for Ray and his family were placed in the care of
the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
