Mary Champeau, 86, of Norman, passed peacefully at home
surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, March 25th.
Mary Jean Johansson was born November 16th, 1930 to Rudolph and
Dorothy Johansson in Peoria, Illinois. She moved to Oklahoma and
met her future husband, George Offenburger, whom she married on
July 28, 1949. Together they raised 5 children while running a
local dairy farm here in Norman until his death in 1980. On
April 1, 1983 she married her second husband, Harold Champeau,
with whom she shared her life with until his death in 1997. Mary
had several jobs. She was a stay at home mom, worked at TG&Y for
some time, and then worked for the University of Oklahoma as a
secretary/dispatcher for the physical plant for many years until
she retired. Mary loved to camp, square dance, play cards,
scrapbook, go to Bingo, and spend time with her beloved friends
and family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Dorothy
Johansson; two husbands, George Offenburger and Harold Champeau;
sons, Gerald Offenburger and David Offenburger; son-in-law,
David Roesler; and great-granddaughter, Kynsleigh Offenburger.
She is survived by her remaining three children, Karen and Don
Gardner, of Norman; Linda Roesler, of Oklahoma City; and John
and Connie Offenburger, of Norman; daughter-in-law, Kim
Offenburger, of Petoskey, Michigan; and numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary, “MeMa,” was our beloved Matriarch and will be greatly
missed by all.
Family will be present to welcome visitors on Wednesday, March
29th at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman from 6pm-8pm.
Funeral services will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman on Thursday, March 30th. Service will begin at 10:30am and will be followed with a graveside service at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, also in Norman.
