Graveside services for Bennie Polk, age 75, of Norman will he held at 11:00 am Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Smith Cemetery, 3400 South Telephone Road in Moore with the Reverend Mike Bumgarner officiating.

Bennie was born April 7, 1935 in Norman, OK the son of Wallace and Essie (Muse) Polk.  Bennie attended schools in Norman, graduating from Norman High School in 1953.  He was united in marriage to Carol Darst on May 7, 1955 in Norman, OK.

Bennie enlisted into the United States Air Force in 1956, serving more than five years before being honorable discharged in 1962.
He and Carol returned to Norman where they raised their family and Bennie was employed as an Avionics Technician for Tinker Air Force Base, retiring in 1996.
In addition to Tinker Air Force Base, Bennie was employed with Gulfstream International and Aero Commander.
With the exception of his military career, Bennie was a life long resident of Norman.  He enjoyed Outdoor Oklahoma and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Bennie was also a talented artist,  creating numerous paintings during his retirement.  He also enjoyed working in his yard and flower gardens.  No other thing brought him more joy, however, than spending time with his family.  Being at home with his wife, Carol, his three sons, and his grandchildren was time he treasured very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Essie Polk.

Bennie is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Carol of the home; three sons, Alan Polk, and Robert Polk, both of Norman; and David Polk of Broken Arrow, OK; five grandchildren; Alexandra Polk, Alison Polk, Daniel Polk, Rebecca Polk, and Rachael Polk; one great grandson, Austin Polk; one sister; Lola Nixon; and one brother-in-law, Glenn Darst and his wife, Nancy of Mobile, AL and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family requests in lieu of flowers a contribution be made in Bennie Polk's name to Meals on Wheels of Norman, Norman Regional Hospital Foundation, or the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, OK.
