Hopkins, Kenneth Paul, 73, left his home in OKC on Wed. Oct. 16, 2002, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Aug, 12, 1929, north of Stroud, OK, the last child born to Oscar L. & Jessie (Jones) Hopkins. He grew up in the Stroud area and graduated from Kendrick High School. In 1948, he joined the army, where he served a tour in Japan & Korea and later returned stateside in 1951. After his honorable discharge, he moved to OKC, where he tried numerous jobs until he joined the OKC Police Dept. in 1956. After 22 years of service with the police dept., he went to work in the security dept. at Hillcrest Hospital in OKC. In 1991, he retired from working and went to "out fish" everyone else at his place in Eufaula, OK. Kenneth        enjoyed life and was a member of the Retired Police Assoc., member of the Myrtle Lodge #145, and longtime member of the Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served as an elder, served on the building & grounds committee, and in other numerous capacities of ministry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Doyle, Audrey & wife, Maggie, and Vernon; two sisters & spouses: Donnie & Howard Hoffman and Ellie & Granville Duggins; one granddaughter, Abby Cox: and his in-laws: George & Edna Rader.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Gerry; two children: Dr. Ron Hopkins & wife, Joyce and Denise Cox & husband, David: four grandchildren: Julie & husband, Josh Smith, Jeffrey Hopkins, Allison & Caleb Cox, all of OKC; sister, Opal Murphy of Stroud; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Vivian & Al Shearer of Bethany, Bernie & Don McGlashan of OKC, and a host of nieces & nephews and their spouses, cousins and friends, together with very special friends, Margie Miller, the other half of Ken & Ken Construction, Ken Cox and special spinner players, Jean & Ed Landgraf. 

Kenneth was a project man. He would look at something and decide to build it; pretty soon all family and friends had one also.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, 6600 S. Penn, OKC, OK 73159. Services will be held 10:00 AM Sat., October 19, 2002 at the South Colonial Chapel. VONDEL L. SMITH & SON MORTUARY 6934 S. Western 634-1439
