Irene Lue Baden Tullis was born in Hobart, OK March 24, 1923 to Herman Ernest Baden and Virgie Vesta Roper Baden. Irene was third of six children, four surviving to adulthood. Irene was baptized by the Lutheran Church at 3 months of age.
During her early childhood, the family lived in Roosevelt in SW OK later moving to the Canute and Butler area on a farm near Panther Creek. Irene helped her father work the farm, plowing and milking. Irene graduated from Pie Flat High School near Butler where she was a Cheerleader and excelled in math. Irene worked at the Palace Drug Store in Elk City.
On January 23, 1943, Irene married John Leonard Tullis of Leedey, OK. January 27, 1943 John L. joined the Allied troops in WWII at Normandy Beach as a member of the 146th Combat Engineering Battalion.
To the marriage was born one son named after his father. John L. Tullis was born Oct. 5, 1943. After the war, John L. and Irene farmed near Leedey, OK raising crops and Hereford cattle for many years. Irene was a member of the Baptist Church. The family later moved to OKC area and owned a billiards recreation business on 29th street. Irene worked at TG&Y prior to retirement.
She was an accomplished homemaker, seamstress and enjoyed gardening. Irene resided in her SW OKC home 46 years before moving to the Tulsa area to live with her niece.
Irene left this life August 26, 2014. Irene was preceded in death by John L. Tullis in 1993; son, Johnny in 2000, daughter-in-law Karen in 2012; parents Herman and Virgie; brothers Ernest Ray, Herman Jr.(infant) and Billy Gene in March 2014; sisters Dorothy (age 10) and Pauline. She is survived by sister-in-law Mrs. Billy G. Baden, eight nieces and nephews and one grandson. Memorial services will be held 2:00pm September 3, 2014 at Resthaven Chapel with graveside service immediately following.
