James Holland Morphis

James Holland Morphis was born into this world on October 30th, 1923 and was welcomed to his heavenly home on September 20, 2019 at an age of almost 96 years.

He was born to the late Charles and Francis Morphis in Bearden, Oklahoma to humble beginnings. They traveled extensively during the depression days of the 1930's before settling back in the area of Wewoka/Holdenville Oklahoma. He proudly served his country as a US Air Force radio operator flying a B-24 in the South Pacific during World War II.

He married the love of his life, Della "Maxine" Morphis, on December 5th, 1946. They intended to be married on December 4th but their old car broke down on the way to Oklahoma City and they were forced to spend the night with Maxine's uncle while it was repaired. Their earthly marriage lasted nearly 73 years, but they will be joined together eternally.

James spent several years as a carpenter, specializing in cabinetry, working for several homebuilders, until he had an unfortunate encounter with a table saw. When asked about it, he would tell people that "those two fingers were just too long to begin with". He subsequently spent several years as an electroplater at Tinker AFB where he retired in 1985. He and Maxine then bought a vacation home on Lake Eufaula where they spent what they often called "22 of the best years of our lives" with many dear friends and fish stories.

James had a kind and gentle heart and would help anyone with anything. He was always thankful for his many blessings in this life and the many friends he had known. He had been baptized into Jesus Christ and fully trusted him as his Savior and Redeemer. He loved the church, his faith was strong, and he had long looked forward to the day of his reward.

James is survived by his loving wife Maxine, his daughter and son-in-law Carol and Danny Burchett; son and daughter-in-law Kim and Debbie Morphis; grandson Tony Burchett and granddaughter Kenci Morphis, all of the Oklahoma City area. He is also loved and survived by numerous grandchildren (great and great-great) who will all miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Carl.
